October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year, we celebrate 50 years since the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 - the first major federal disability rights law in the United States that protects people with disabilities from discrimination and provides services to help them.
Kealoha Psychology would like to take the time to recognize the contributions and abilities of individuals with disabilities in the workforce and use this time to raise awareness, promote workplace inclusivity, and challenge stereotypes.
There are many benefits to disability employment. For individuals with disabilities, employment can increase financial independence and security, allow access to health insurances and other employment benefits, and provide opportunities for social interaction. For communities, disability employment can increase economic productivity and cultivate a more diverse and inclusive workforce. Mahalo to the many businesses - big and small - that support the employment of individuals with disabilities.
